He was predeceased by: his parents, Mildred Smith (Betz) and Elwood Smith. He is survived by: his wife Rebecca Smith (Schlingman); his daughter Stephanie Landis (Robert Landis); his sister Judith Kennedy (Charles Kennedy); and his siblings-in-law, David Schlingman (Nancy Schlingman) and Sherry Smith. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Donations may be made to Morning Star Fellowship in lieu of flowers.
