He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Mary Jane Thompson (Altsman) and William G. Thomas; his wife Karen Thomas (Pifer); his daughter Kelly D. Thomas; his grandson Shane Alexander; his siblings, Herb Thompson (Mary), David Thompson (Tracey), Dawn Boyd (Rich), Laura Rubino (Mike) and Mary Ann Oster; his stepparents, Herbert Thompson and Joyce Thomas; and his son William K. "Billy" Thomas. He was also cherished by several nieces and nephews.
