He was predeceased by: his parents, Carl D. Schiel and Lola M. Schiel (Jenkins); his wife Sally Schiel (Zimmerman); his grandson Paul John Schiel; and his brothers, Carl and Walter "Buddy" Schiel.
He is survived by: his children, Barry "B. J." Schiel, Jr. (Tami), Daniel Schiel (Maura), Miners Mills and Ami Price (Dave); his grandchildren, Barry, Brooke, Becky Schiel of David, Price, III, Dana, Sara and Jason Price; his great grandchild Macey Schiel; and his siblings, David Schiel, Sharon McGowan (Tom), Lori Cienciva (Peter), Harding and Pam Russell (Roy) of Dayton, WA. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
