He was predeceased by: his parents, Alfred Schmitt and Adeline Simpson Schmitt; his son Douglas Schmitt; his grandsons, Kirk Schmitt and Ryan Schmitt; his daughter-in-law Hilda Schmitt (Neidt); his parents-in-law, Lawrence and Beryl Keesler; and his siblings, Alfred Schmitt (Jane) and Marion Barnes (John).
He is survived by: his wife Audrey Keesler Schmitt; his children, William Jr., Christine Schmitt of Tucson, AZ, Eileen Ertel of Virginia Beach, VA, David Smith of Beavertown, PA, Mark and Brenda Schmitt of Honesdale, PA; his daughter-in-law Heather Schmitt of Tucson, AZ.; and his grandchildren, Angela Britton (Jet), Amy Black, Timothy Schmitt (Adrienne), Shannon Edsall (Kevin), Burgandy Burleson, Joshua Smith, Benjamin Schmitt (Jess), Christopher Burleson, Emily Schmitt, Stephen Schmitt (Caitlin), Kaleb Smith, Patrick Schmitt (Jessica), Rachael Smith, Ashley Schmitt and Connor Schmitt. He is also survived by numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
Due to the current pandemic, a memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.
