He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Walter and Elsie Smith; and his siblings, Hilda, James, Woodrow, Harold, Calvin, Richard (Dick), Kathryn (Kitty), Jack, Robert (Bob), Lois, Arthur (Art), Mary and Lester (Les).
He is survived by: his wife Carol Lynn Counterman (Van Why); his children, Penelope (David Emanuel), Samuel P. Jr. (Jennifer Sworen), Terri Michael (John) and Scott of Bartonsville, PA; his grandsons, Joe, Matt, Nate, Dylan and John Michael; his great grandchildren, Jensen, Avery and Emile; and his sister Carolyn Smith of Dearborn Heights, MI. He is also survived by MANY nieces and nephews.
