He was predeceased by: his parents, Mary Bell (Halsted) and Joseph A. Schafer, Sr.; his brother Christopher Schafer; and his niece Heather. He is survived by: his wife Cathy Schafer (Runyon); his children, Katie Runyon, Amanda Caswell, Robert Schafer, Eric Chirco and Steven Chirco; his sister Maria Santiago; and his nieces, Jessica Szmak, Ashlee, Alyssa and Amanda.
