With profound sadness, we say goodbye to Dorothy S. (Shaffer) Fontana of Avonmore, Pennsylvania, whose vibrant spirit touched the lives of many. She was predeceased by: her parents, Harvey L. Shaffer and Esther Shaffer (Alsippi); and her siblings, Harvey L. Shaffer, Jr., Robert Shaffer, Ronald, Donald Shaffer, Mary Hinzy, Virginia "Ginny" Ward and Gloria Rokicsak.
She is survived by: her husband Carl A. Fontana; her children, Angela L. Palmiscno (Brian) of Avonmore, Carla J. Leightner (Rory) of Medina, OH, David J. Fontana (Kathy) of Canonsburg and Bernard A. Fontana (Kristin) of Lower Burrell; her grandchildren, Anthony, Maria, Kristin (Jared), Stephanie (Roth), Matthew (Kimberly), Benjamin, Nathan (Kayleigh), Michael (Maria), Christopher (Briana), Rebecca (Evan), Ethan (Margo), Tyler and Jonathan; and her brother Ed Shaffer of Avonmore. She is also survived by 14 great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Visitation was held on Sunday, March 9th 2025 from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Curran-Shaffer Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. - Apollo (100 Owens View Ave, Apollo, PA 15613). A funeral Mass was held on Monday, March 10th 2025 from 10:00 AM to 10:45 AM at the St. Ambrose Roman Catholic Church (505 Cambria Ave, Avonmore, PA 15618).
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Dorothy's memory to the St. Ambrose Altar Rosary Society at the above listed address.
