He was predeceased by: his wife Patricia Snopek Happel; his mother Maria Wagner; and his stepfather Donald Wagner. He is survived by: his daughters, Amber Happel, Auburn and Randi Dillabaugh (John) of Orwigsburg; his siblings, Veronika Wilson of Minnesota, Hildegard Happel of Arizona and Walter Happel of Minnesota; and his former wife Brenda Happel of Orwigsburg. He is also survived by four grandchildren, six great grandchildren.
