With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Leon C. McCarty Jr. of Athens, Pennsylvania, whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on December 15, 2024 at the age of 80. He was predeceased by: his parents, Leon C., Sr. and Agnes McCarty (Scrivens); his wife Beverly R. McCarty; his granddaughter Jamie Lynn Stack; his brother-in-law Mert Barrowcliff; and his close friends, James and Pamela Dolan.
He is survived by: his children, Kelly Hicks (Wayne), Brenda Vanderpool (Dale), Maureen Stack and Branden Myers (Ashley); his grandchildren, Jesse Vanderpool (Gabby), Randi Stack (Joel), Dillion Miller (Melissa) and Sarah Franks; his great grandchildren, Payton Myers, Parker Myers, Branson Myers, Emma Vanderpool, Weston Kuhns, Kynlee Walters, Charlotte Garrison and Layla Stack; and his sisters, Linda Barrowcliff and Patricia McWain. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visitation was held on Wednesday, December 18th 2024 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the Lowery-Urban Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc. (225 S Main St, Athens, PA 18810). A celebration of life was held on Wednesday, December 18th 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Lowery-Urban Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Inc. (225 S Main St, Athens, PA 18810). The military honors was held on Wednesday, December 18th 2024 at 1:45 PM at the same location. A burial was held on Wednesday, December 18th 2024 at 2:15 PM at the Tioga Point Cemetery (803 N Main St, Athens, PA 18810).
