He was predeceased by: his parents, Henry Wetzel and Mary Tophoney (Magdeburg); and his siblings, Ronald "Bones", James "Jimmy Joe", Raymond Wetzel, Rosella Tobias, Sue Ann Wagner and Mary Agnes Zerbey.
He is survived by: his wife Dorothy (Bickel); his children, Richard H. Wetzel Jr. (Lynn), Stephen Wetzel (Cindy), Christopher Wetzel (Doreen), Melanie Skotek Tresckow (James) and Paula Neidig (Keith); his grandchildren, Brandon (Carrie), Richard E, Kirsten Shadle (Jesse), Zachary Neidig (Tabitha), Jess Wetzel (Miranda), Morgan Skotek and Zander Neidig; his great grandchildren, Emerson, Avonlea, Crew Shadle and Zylis Neidig; and his siblings, Robert Wetzel, Henry Wetzel (Evelyn), Carol Mervine (Guy) and Regina Akelaitis (Ronald).
