He was predeceased by: his parents, Rosco Messersmith and Salena Oneal Messersmith; his brother Stephen; and his grandson Matthew Jenkins. He is survived by: his wife Mary Green Messersmith; his children, Robert Messersmith, Jr. (Billie) of Falling Waters, WV, Sandra Lynn Jenkins of Brooklyn, MD and Monty Messersmith (Donna) of Bradenton, FL.; his siblings, Ellsworth Messersmith (Barbara) of Hagerstown, MD, Arlin Messersmith (Jackie) of Chester, MD, Floyd Messersmith, Collette of Summerfield, FL., Freda Betts of The Villages, FL and Doris Rhoads of Hagerstown, MD.; his grandchildren, Jason Jenkins (Emily), Beau Jenkins, Pierce Messersmith (Haley) and Tyler Messersmith; and his great grandchildren, Isabelle, Victor and Mason.
