He was predeceased by: his parents, Stewart Johnston and Bertha Johnston; his sister Reva; his brother-in-law Ted Dugger; and his brother James Johnston.
He is survived by: his wife Helen Rosenberger Johnston; his son John Johnston (Annie); his grandchildren, Paula Eckenrode (Bryan), Heather Yohe, John Johnston, Jr., Tamra Colwell (Todd) and Tylor Rainey; his great grandchildren, Hunter, Macie Eckenrode, Mason Dosch, Jesse, Kaden and Lillian Colwell; and his siblings, Dick Johnston (Linda), Ken Johnston (late Bobbi) and Elanor Anderson (late Bill).
