He was predeceased by: his parents, Joseph W. Shaw and Agnes R. Shaw (Rabuck). He is survived by: his wife Carol S. Shaw; his sons, Joseph W., III, James W. and John W. Shaw; his daughter-in-law Jia Luo; and his grandchildren, Jianrui Shaw, Danielle and Lucia Shaw.
