Kevin T Hickey Obituary
Kevin T. Hickey, 78, of Aaronsburg, passed away on Saturday, December 30, 2023, at the Lancaster Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. Born on November 21, 1945, in Lock Haven, he was the son of the late James A. and Mary Mildred "Midi" (McMullen) Hickey. On November 28, 1969, at the St. Agnes Catholic Church in Lock Haven, he married Dorothy I. Holt, who preceded him in death in 2018.
Kevin graduated from Lock Haven High School and continued his education at the Lock Haven University, where he earned his BS in secondary education biology. He was an excellent swimmer and swam competitively during his college years for Lock Haven University. Following college, he taught biology at Millersburg, where he also was a football coach. His second career as an industrial hygienist was his passion. He was devoted to keeping workers safe despite push back from big corporations. He was a certified safety professional and a member of their professional organization.
Kevin was a member of the Durty Dabbers Club in McElhattan. He enjoyed woodworking and fly fishing. He had a passion for sailing and the great outdoors. He liked to work on cars and motorcycles, and could be found riding his motorcycle, enjoying every minute of it. He used to build telescopes, big ones!! He loved sharing his astronomy knowledge with his grandchildren. During the last big solar eclipse, he even had several of his grandchildren's friends over as well to teach them all about it. Once a teacher, always a teacher. Especially when it came to anything science related, he loved science. He was a caring and compassionate man, who had a soft spot for animals, whether he was removing them from the road (even snapping turtles) or making trips to the local wildlife rehab facility, he helped any animal that was in need. He enjoyed spending time with family and his life long friends, particularly Dan and Rose Reeder of Lock Haven and several others who have preceded him in death. He was a sociable person, loving holiday gatherings. He cherished the many wonderful weekends that were spent at "camp" during the 60's, 70's, and 80's. He even helped build a big log cabin. He tried to live by his favorite quote, "It is not who you have in life, but who you have beside you that matters". "Ar dheis De go Raibh a n-anamacha" – Rest in Peace.
Kevin is survived by his son, Sean K. Hickey and his wife, Wendy, of Conestoga; his daughter, Laura S. Hickey-Dorman and her husband, Dave, of Coburn; six grandchildren, Davia A. Dorman, Millena L.
