He was predeceased by: his parents, Dr. Rexford Butler and Ruth Butler; his daughter Tanna Lee Butler; his grandson Isaiah Grey Butler Redmond; his adoptive daughter Brenda Hartman Warrenton (Duane); and his brother Rex K. Butler (Carla).

He is survived by: his wife Diana M. Butler (Adkins); and his nephew Rex Butler Jr..
