She was predeceased by: her parents, Daniel Carl Knowles and Ethel Gertrude Tuggle; and her brothers, Richard and Daniel. She is survived by: her husband Richard E. Rice; and her children, Cynthia Gilchrist (Paul), Jeffery Rice (Sandra) and Kathleen Smith (Howard).

She helped with the University of Oregon's Friendship Foundation helping foreign students become acclimated to the University.
