He was predeceased by: his parents, Stephen Merten and Hazel Merten (Luukkonen); and his brother Michael Merten. He is survived by: his wife Bonnie; and his brother-in-law Jerry Breazeale.

As Maury believed strongly in the importance of children's organized sports, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to Kidsports.
