He was predeceased by: his parents, Marcus (Beryl Hempel) and Beryl; and his brothers, Marcus and Richard. He is survived by: his wife Ardellis; his children, Dorinda Hempel and Kenneth Hempel (Jennifer); his granddaughters, Kaitlyn and Jenna; his daughters, Denise Moore (Scott) and Deanne Weisgerber (Greg); and his grandchildren, Abigail and Claire.

Viewing was held on Wednesday, November 13th 2024 at 12:00 PM at the Skyline Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home (4101 NW Skyline Blvd, Portland, OR 97229). A graveside service was held on Wednesday, November 13th 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Skyline Memorial Gardens Funeral Home (4101 NW Skyline Blvd, Portland, OR 97229). A reception was held on Wednesday, November 13th 2024 from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM at the Skyline Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home (4101 NW Skyline Blvd, Portland, OR 97229).
