He was predeceased by: his parents, Lloyd and Magdalena; and his brother Joseph. He is survived by: his siblings, Josephine "Josie" Steltenpohl (John) and Lloyd Jr (Judy); his wife Lynn; and his daughters, Stephanie Brink (Jay) of California and Rachel of Portland. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations be made to the American Kidney Fund or the OHSU Knight Cardiovascular Institute.
