He was predeceased by: his parents, Chester Arthur Sams and Sarah Franklin Sams; and his wife Maxine Deshazer. He is survived by: his grandson Lyle; his children, Lynda Payton of North Bend and Lyle Sams of Eagle Point; and his grandchildren, Dr. Joshua Payton (Julie) of McMinnville, Sarah Ross (Shaun) of Santa Rosa, California, Brenda Mehus (David) of Bandon and Justin Sams (Trish) of Central Point. He is also survived by nine great-grandchildren, one great-great grandchild and many nieces and nephews.
