He was predeceased by: his parents, Luther Hays and Ellen Hays (Bennett); his siblings, Clarence, Beverly Hays, Oliver Hays and Beatrice; and his brother-in-law Joe Stephens.
He is survived by: his wife Betty Jean Shafer; his children, Rick Hays (Linda) of Elgin, OR, Susan Jarrell of Elgin, OR and Mike Hays (Ann) of Elgin, OR; and his siblings, Bertha Stephens of Grangeville, ID and Charles Hays (Corky) of Elgin, OR. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren.
