He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Clinton Hubbard and Selma Powers; his daughter Mindee Garrett; his wife Vivian; his daughter Valerie Garrett Beeson (Brian); his grandson Jackson E. Beeson; and his children, Donald K. Garrett Jr. (Mary) and Laura Garrett. He was also cherished by several grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Upon graduation he worked at the Tuality Community Hospital in Hillsboro, before being hired by Kaiser Foundation Hospitals where he worked for thirty-five years. During his time with Kaiser Foundation he worked as a x-ray technician, as well as serving simultaneously on the hospital management team as well as a union representative.
