Celestine E. "Sally (Weverka) Duris, 88, passed away on May 20, 2018, after a 6-month illness. Born July 5, 1929, on the farm in Center Township, Butler County, Nebraska, to Adolph and Clara (Theewen) Weverka, she attended schools in Butler and Saunders Counties, Nebraska, until 1940 when the family moved to Hillsboro, Oregon. She graduated from Hilhi High School in 1946 and began working as a Medical Secretary for Doctors Piercy and Robb. That same year she was introduced to the love of her life, Miller M. Duris, and they were married on October 11, 1948, in Hillsboro. Sally and Miller moved to Virginia in 1959 with two daughters where Miller managed the Tektronix Washington, D.C. field office. Returning to Hillsboro in 1967 with six daughters, Sally worked part-time as a Medical Secretary for Dr. Marvin J. Robb until her retirement in 1992. Sally's main "hobby" was coordinating schedules for six daughters and a husband who was active in the Hillsboro community. Her other "part-time" job for over 40 years was scorekeeper for all the teams on which her daughters played and continued as Miller played senior softball in Arizona and California in winter and Portland in summer and at different tournaments throughout the US.Sally was a member of the Hillsboro Martin J. Ryan VFW Post 2666 Ladies Auxiliary and the First Catholic Slovak Union Portland Branch 735. She is survived by four daughters and sons-in-law: Cindy and Herb Hirst, North Plains, Carol and Steve Nolan, Hillsboro, Colleen and Steve Palmer, St. Helens, Carin and Blake Landon, Hillsboro; daughter Cathy Robb ofSt. Petersburg, Florida, and former son-in-law Burdette Robb of Vernonia; 9 grandchildren: Jeff Tankersley, Holly and Miller Nolan, Danielle and Katelynn Robb, Addison Haas, Hayley, Griffin and Grayson Landon; two grandsons and granddaughters-in-law: Burdette and Larinda Robb, Michael and MaRaine Palmer; and three great-grandchildren; Aiden and Liam Robb and Wynne Palmer; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Alfred and Jeanette Weverka, Hillsboro, and Robert and Sharon Weverka, Cornelius, and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Miller on March 23, 2014, and daughter Cheryl Tankersley in 2005. The family suggests donations to either Visitation New School Project Fund or Forest Hills Lutheran Christian School in Cornelius, or your favorite charity.
