He was predeceased by: his parents, Martin Edward Gerdes and Lena Gerdes (Dethlefs); his former wife Coreane Scovell; his daughter Sandra Strassel; and his siblings, Helen Stubbs and Monroe Gerdes.
He is survived by: his wife Alice Gerdes of Forest Grove, Oregon; his sons, Stan (Almeda Gerdes) and Ron (Sheila Gerdes); his grandchildren, Julie Strassel of Hillsboro, Oregon, Melanie Strassel of Hillsboro, Oregon, Tina (Scott Slaughter), Teresa (Kevin Wick), Dennis (Amy Kresin) and Kevin Kresin of Scappoose, Oregon; and his great grandchildren, Ashton and Caden Mikulak. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
