He is survived by: his parents, John Bartels and Jean Niiranen; his sister Brooke Bartels; his grandparents, Arthur and Valerie Bartels; and his aunts and uncles, Linda Presley (David), Richard Niiranen (Sonya), Ray Niiranen, Helen Hiiranen, Chris Bartels, Joe Bartels, Dan Bartels, Carol Morton (Randy), David Bartels (Darlene), Sam Bartels (Lesa), Tom Bartels and Debbie Bartels.
In lieu of flowers, his family requests donations in his name to either the National Alliance on Mental Illness or to a charity of support for mental health of the donor's choice.
