He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, John Peterson and June Peterson; his wife Cheryl Albritton of Dallas; and his children, Dr. J. J. Peterson, Benjamin Peterson, Jesse Peterson and Becky Nicol. He was also cherished by grandchildren.
