He is survived by: his daughters, Gayle, Beverly and Carol (Adam Smolinski); his wife Doris (Mangum); his brother Bob Volk (Shari); and the parents of children, Alice and Garth Volk.
His family requests that donations in Van's memory be made to Grace Lutheran Church or Lumina Hospice, in appreciation of their support during his final weeks with cancer.
