He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Walter Short and Ellen Short; his wife Maxine Luhr; his sons, Brian, Donald (Carolyn) and Michael (Liza); his grandchildren, Nicholas and Katherine (Brian) of North Carolina; his daughter Kathleen of Seattle; and his sister Eileen Giles of Hoquiam.

In lieu of flowers, at the family's request, donations in honor of Robert Short may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.
