He was predeceased by: his father Kaye Purkerson. He is survived by: his mother Grace Purkerson of Lebanon; his wife Ellen (Corvallis); his son Stephen Purkerson of Vancouver, WA; his stepchildren, Jim Rinehart of Vancouver, Nikolai Serban (Ron Wixman) of Eugene, Ceitdh Belleque (Nick) of Beaverton, Jessica Serban of Eugene, Maggie Cairns (Neil) of Aloha and Caroline Hart of Portland; his siblings, Neil (Judy) of Lebanon, Paul (Lisa) of Adair Village and Karen Bales of Lebanon; and his grandchildren, Serenity and Arlo. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made in Joel's name to the Oregon Coast Aquarium.
