He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Corwin Denzel and Ella Mae Horne (Player); his daughter Nancy Carolyn; his wife Clara Ann; his sister Carolyn; his son Frederick John Horne (Francoise Carrier); his daughter-in-law Katherine Horne; his grandchildren, Danielle, Fred David Horne, Ashley, Angela Watts, Alex and Tamsin Horne; and his son Dr. James Herbert Horne.
Upon earning his Ph.D. in 1962, he departed with Clara for Stanford University where Fred was a National Science Foundation postdoctoral fellow and an instructor in chemistry.
