He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Nute Burgess and Lizzie Burgess; his wife Ella; his children, Terry Burgess (Tony Burgess), Nick Skulich, Jeanne Smoldt (Don) and Cindy Egli; and his grandson Christopher Smoldt. He was also cherished by 9 grandchildren.
