He was loved and cherished by many people including: his children, John Steven (Laura Bowers) of East Amherst, NY, Jeanne Terese (Jud Landis) of Eugene, OR and Julie Michelle of Bend, OR; his grandson Miles David Bowers; his sister Susan Willer of Cave Creek, AZ.; his parents, George Bowers and Clara Wathier Bowers of Alton; and his former wife Eleanore Fyock.

“When I didn't receive a birthday message from my favorite communicator, I knew something was wrong. I'm so sorry to see that he passed. The picture I'm attaching was taken in 2009, when he met me before I went on a Broadwalk with the Great Old Broads for Wilderness. He was the one who mashed the potatoes on Thanksgiving at our house for a number years. He was also a beautiful mentor and friend. Goodbye, John. I'll think of you often.”
