It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Shirlie Colleen Graham (Ashland, Oregon), born in Modesto, California, who passed away on April 15, 2023, at the age of 94, leaving to mourn family and friends. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by: her parents, Lona Anlauf McCarton and Donald Alden McCarton; her brother Jack McCarton; and her son Billy Jeff. She is survived by: her spouse Alva Gene Graham; and her children, DeAnne Butterfield (John Huyler) of Boulder, Colorado, Roger Butterfield (Lois Schlegel) of Medford, Peter Butterfield (Robin Stroh) of Central Point and Joseph Butterfield (Valinda Williams) of Medford. She is also survived by seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

The Association of Prenatal and Perinatal Psychology and Health conferred its Pioneer award to Colleen in 2021 in recognition of her early contributions to the field of Birth Psychology, the emerging science that babies are conscious and aware and have their own thoughts, feelings, and experiences before, during, and after birth.
