He was predeceased by: his parents, George Cate and Agnes Cate (Riddle); his wife Barbara Lee Snyder; and his brothers, Doug Cate and Bud Cate.

He is survived by: his daughters, Karen Roberts of Albany and Sally Cate of Newport News, VA. He is also survived by Five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
