He was predeceased by: his parents, Charlie Cotten and Frankie Cotten; and his brother William Cotten. He is survived by: his wife Bernice; his son Aaron Cotten (Jeannie); his stepchildren, Destiny Griffin, Kristie Flowers, Dove Moreno, Dustin Griffin and Joey Griffin; and his sister Francine Baldridge. He is also survived by ten grandchildren.
