He was predeceased by: his parents, James Henry and Gladys Joy Tharp (Smart); and his brothers, Gerald, Melvin and Don Tharp.
He is survived by: his daughters, Brenna Payne (Kevin) of Amarillo, Texas and Brandi Sutter (Austin) of Amarillo, Texas; his adoptive son Malachi Garcia of Ulysses, Kansas; his siblings, James E. Tharp (Kay) of Yukon, Marvin Tharp (Diana) of Hardesty, Joy Briggs (Ronald) of Ulysses and Dixie Tharp of Ulysses, Kansas.; his sisters-in-law, JoAnn Tharp of Hardesty and Barbara Tharp of Santa Paula; and his close friends, Javier and Mary Moreno of Turpin. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
