He was predeceased by: his parents, John Garbey Sr. and Evelyn Shields; his son Larry Stanley; his grandson Matthew Stanley; and his siblings, Donald and Dorothy.
He is survived by: his wife Joyce Hoover; his grandchildren, Bruce Sexton of Talala, OK, Nikki Perez, Perez of Tulsa, OK, Heather and Jason Jones of Rocky Mount, NC; and his caregiver Jill Poindexter. He is also survived by his 10 great-grandchildren, his great-great grandson.
