Douglas Pickard Obituary
Clifford Douglas Denton Pickard, age 86, died on December 4th, 2021, after a long and determined battle with cancer. He passed away peacefully at his home in Snake Creek, Lake Tenkiller, surrounded by his devoted wife Rosalee and loved ones.
Douglas was born October 17, 1935, near Proctor, Oklahoma, to Ona Jackson and Faye Christine (Mathis) Pickard. Blessed with seven siblings and many cousins, his favorite childhood days were spent fishing and gigging on the banks of the Baron Fork River. He attended Proctor Elementary School and Westville High School before proudly joining the United States Air Force. There he was stationed in Labrador and Thule, Greenland, in support of the North American Aerospace Command. He returned to school in the 1960's and attended OSU at Stillwater where he received his BA in Engineering. Following graduation he joined RCA's computer division in New York, eventually becoming the RCA California Sales Manager and moving his family to Mission Viejo, California.
Douglas, a proud Cherokee, retired home to Lake Tenkiller in 2006. He and his wife Rosalee enjoyed fishing several days a week and raising numerous beloved pets. As a hobby he built insulated cat houses for feral cats' warmth in the winter months and found homes for stray kittens.
Douglas is preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Patricia Riddle, Lawrence Pickard, Larry Donnell Pickard, Gwen Hendrickson, and Diantha Garner. He is also preceded by his daughter Angel Pickard-Philp.
Left behind to cherish his memory include Doug's wife of over 40 years Rosalee (Kubiski) Pickard and his siblings Joan Clark of Oklahoma City, OK, and Terry Lynn and wife Anni Pickard of Murphy, TX. He also leaves children Lenora and husband Charles Pickard-Pereira of Phoenix, AZ, Regina Pickard of Tahlequah, OK, Maria and husband Tom Passantino-Haley of Aliso Viejo, CA, and Frank Passantino of Aliso Viejo, CA. His grandchildren are Marissa Harris of San Antonio, TX, Miranda Harris of Tahlequah, OK, and Frank Passantino V of Aliso Viejo, CA.
At Douglas's request there will be no public memorial service due to Covid considerations, however donations may be made in his memory to The Humane Society of Cherokee County, PO Box 1354, Tahlequah, OK, 74465, phone (918) 457-7997.
