He was predeceased by: his parents, Callie Maxine Mays (Gipson) and Wendell Mays; his spouse Vestie Marie Mays (Brown); and his brother Billy Mays. He is survived by: his children, Robert Mays (Mary), Steven Mays of Stilwell, OK and Vicki Johnson of Stilwell, OK; and his brothers, Garland Mays (Linda) and Johnny Mays (Shirley). He is also survived by seven grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
