He was predeceased by: his parents, Clarence Otis and Opal Bates; his wife Kaaren Bates; and his siblings, Virginia Gulley (Bates), Phillip Bates and Bruce Bates.
He is survived by: his sons, Randy Bates of Yukon, OK. and Gary Bates of Stigler; his adoptive sons, Doug Bates of San Diego and Don Bates of Guthrie, OK.; his grandchildren, Anessa Bates, Corey Bates of Oklahoma City, Elana Bates and Sarah Cordial Bates of San Diego, California; his great grandchildren, Jaxon, Willow, Grayson, Ezra, Zoe and Evalina; his sister Lois Weir of Anchorage, Alaska; and his sisters-in-law, Jenny Bates of Owasso and Pat Bates of Claremore.
