He was loved and cherished by many people including: his parents, Cecil Bates and Marna Beth Bates (Johnson) of Stigler; his wife Delaina Bates; his children, Adam Bates (Brittany) and Cecily Bates; his stepchildren, Michael Dowdy of Checotah, Luke (Lindsay Ely) and Rachel Ely of Hanover, Pennsylvania.; his grandchildren, Amelia, AJ and Arya of California; his stepgrandchildren, Jensen, Oliver, Jayce and Ezra; his siblings, Stephanie Peters (Bob) of Stigler and Brian "Buzzy" Bates of Stigler; his sisters-in-law, Connie Bates of Van Buren and Jackie Bates of Stigler; his mother-in-law Linda Dowdy of Checotah; his brothers, Mack and Jack Bates; his father-in-law Doug Dowdy; and his pet Stretch.
Visitation was held on Tuesday, April 8th 2025 from 9:00 AM to 8:30 PM at the King and Shearwood Funeral Home (808 E Main St, Stigler, OK 74462). A funeral service was held on Wednesday, April 9th 2025 at 1:00 PM at the R. E. Shearwood Memorial Chapel.
