He is survived by: his children, Angela Capehart (Phillips), Phil, Deborah Allen (Gary) and John Ray Phillips II (Carrie Jo); his siblings, Thurman Phillips (Vicki), Betty Jo Cryder, Iva Jean Holcomb and Wilma Brown; and his grandchildren, Stephanie James, Lucas Harris, Ashley Mathis, Kyle Allen, Cody Allen, Colten Allen, Morgan Phillips, Quinn Phillips, Erin Burwell, Kelsey Phillips, Gabby Beaman, Josie Williamson and Brendan Williamson. He is also survived by other relatives and friends.

He was a hard working and independent soul, with an amazingly diverse array of knowledge and skills. He loved his horses and dogs and the quiet country life.
