He was predeceased by: his parents, Dola Mae and Oscar "Melvin" Buchanan; his wife Torcia Fern Graham; and his sisters, Roberta Johnson and Geraldine Deibler.

He is survived by: his son Shayne Buchanan (Marta) of Glenpool, OK; his grandchildren, Blayne Buchanan, Bryce Buchanan and Braylin Buchanan; and his sisters, Wanda Christian and Glenda Abney.
