He was predeceased by: his parents, Hurst Wheeler and Virginia Wheeler (Huffman); his stepfather William Swaim; his brother Dr. Sam Wheeler; and his father-in-law Jake Lane.

He is survived by: his wife Sharon Lane; his children, Emily of Stillwater, OK and John (KeLee); his granddaughter Vivian of Edmond, OK; his daughter Julie Cordell (Matt); his grandchild Cooper of Tomball, TX; his brother Steve Wheeler of Hinesville, GA; and his mother-in-law Donna Lane of Ponca City.
