It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Rita (Smith) Johnson of Ponca City, Oklahoma, born in Coffeyville, Kansas, who passed away on March 24, 2023, at the age of 60, leaving to mourn family and friends. She was predeceased by: her parents, Wildon Franklin and Dorothy M. Smith (Morris); and her sister Carolyn Lou Smith. She is survived by: her former husband Don Johnson; her stepchildren, Donnie Johnson and Melisa Peterson; and her siblings, Marilyn Torrance (Fred) of Tulsa, Curtis F. Smith of South Coffeyville, Terry L. Smith (Margie) of Independence and Timothy J. Smith of Tulsa. She is also survived by three step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild.

“What makes someone a Mother, it's hard to sum that up, and not always as black and white as one would think. She made us brush our teeth, make our beds, eat our vegetables, even despite the arguments. My friends all like to come over, because my step mom was "hot" lol. She bought me air Nike's so I would be cool. She loved us, I never considered the step in mom. She was just an additional mother. Even after the divorce, she never missed a happy b-day. I love you Rita, I hope you knew that.”
