He was predeceased by: his parents, John Challis and Ruby Challis; his wife Nancy Catherine Woods; his grandson Chad Challis; and his siblings, Ruby Storck, Lucy Plank, Arlene Leonard, Norma Ellis, Iona Byrd, Shirley Hays, Bill Challis, John Challis, Jr., Flowers and Northeast Baptist Church.
He is survived by: his children, Richard Challis (Lois Challis), Deborah Anderson (Glen Anderson) and Mike Challis (Penny Challis); his grandchildren, Christy Snyder, Kim Herrington, Trisha Hughes, Ryan Hughes, Michael Challis, Lorrie Challis, Ali Thiry, Cody Thiry and Evan Challis; his great grandchildren, Mallory, Hayden, Oliver, Baylea, Alexis, Amelia, Caleb, Mykah, Elliot, Savannah, Chad, Loreli, Arthur and Grant; and his great great grandchildren, Addison, Lynley, Raylea and Connor.
