He was predeceased by: his parents, Faye Worley (Boyd) and Bethel Bates; and his grandparents, Oscar, Winnie Boyd, John and Ella Bates.
He is survived by: his wife Marslene Shelton; his daughters, Rhonda Jones, Rebecka Gardenhire (Roger), Tessila Cagle and Deshana Ludlow; and his siblings, Rachel Taapken (Bates), Estella Tayrien (Bates) and Bethel Bates (Buzzy). He is also survived by 12 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives.
