He was predeceased by: his mother Virginia "Juanita" Flanary Sims; his wife Judy Ann Martin of Cushing; his father John Lewis Sims; his brother Lewis; his sister-in-law Bonnie Sims; his sister Donna Coleman; and his brothers-in-law, Jim Martin and Henry "Hank" Martin.

He is survived by: his children, David, Michele Sims of Owasso, Derek and Shaunda Sims of Fountain, CO.; his grandchildren, Vince Sims, John Sims of Owasso and Ally Sims of Fountain, CO.; his siblings-in-law, Tom, Judi Martin of Scottsdale, AZ, Sally, Ray Ewen of Cushing and Glen Coleman of Hinton; his aunt Carol Conway of Shawnee; and his close friend Alfredo Rojas. He is also survived by numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews as well as several close friends.
