Billie C. Sterner Obituary
Billie Claudine (Cox) Sterner, 75, a resident of Okmulgee passed away Thursday, September 23, 2021 in Kansas City, MO. She was born December 29, 1945 to Claude and Louise (Freeman) Cox in Henryetta, OK. Billie attended St. Anthony's Grade School and then graduated from Okmulgee High School in 1963. After high school she worked at the City Hospital in Okmulgee then went on to manage Creek Forest Apartments for over 40 years. After retirement she volunteered her time reading to children at Preston Public Schools as a Grandparent Buddy and she also served food at the local homeless shelter. Billie had a passion for cooking. Anyone that met her knew she was an amazing cook. She not only cooked for her family but for others. During the holidays she would prepare a dinner, make her friends plates and deliver them. She always thought of others and made sure they did not go without. When she wasn't serving others she enjoyed going to the library and working puzzles, visiting with friends as they played roll out, and spending time with her family. Billie was also a faithful servant of the Lord. She loved her church, Newtown United Indian Methodist, and served over the years as church treasurer, trustee, and chairman of the board. She also was an active member of the United Methodist Women's Group.
Billie was preceded in death by her parents and husband of 38 years, Mervin J. Sterner, Jr.
Survivors include her daughter, Anna Sterner, son, Billy Sterner, granddaughters, Arielle Mullinax and Paiden Sterner, a sister, Cogee Keith-Long and husband Dave, great grandchildren, Alexa, Everly and Reagan and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family members.
