With solemn hearts, we announce the passing of Walter Leroy Hammond (Oklahoma City, Oklahoma), whose presence will be deeply missed, having departed on December 16, 2024 at the age of 93. He was predeceased by: his parents, George Hammons and Emma Hammons (Smith); his wife Mary of Hobart, OK; his brother Jeffrey (Blonzella); his brother-in-law Curly Dan Smith; his parents-in-law, Willie and Lucinda Smith; his sister-in-law Eva (Robert L. Moore); his great-nephew Wilbur Wright, II; and his nephew-in-law Wilbur Wright, Sr. (Walter).
He is survived by: his children, Walter L. Hammond, II and Deidre Hopkins; his grandchildren, Cherice Hopkins (Alexandria) and Brandon Hopkins (Kansas City); his granddaughter-in-law Elizabeth; his nieces, Cynthia (Colorado Springs) and Dianne Wright; his nephew Oliver Moore; his great-niece Eva Burris; and his great-nephew Justin Moore.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, December 27th 2024 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the Saint John Missionary Baptist Church (5700 N Kelley Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73111). A burial will be held on Friday, December 27th 2024 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at the Hillcrest Memory Gardens (12813 NE 50th St, Spencer, OK 73084).
